We are part of a larger community. We honor our call to
be a spiritual resource for Wilmette and the surrounding area.
If there is a theme to our community ministry, it is that
of offering Sabbath, a spiritual haven from the manic nature
of our society. We perceive that many people in our community,
despite their wealth and proud independence, suffer from loneliness,
spiritual emptiness, and the stress of too many demands on
their time. There is a need to pull away from the incessant
demands of the material world to rediscover our essential
selves and our God.
In one effort to address this need for Sabbath, we have distributed
300 copies of Wayne Muller’s book Sabbath: finding Rest
Renewal and Delight in Our Daily Lives to neighbors and
brought the author to Wilmette to speak.
We are regular supporters of the
New Trier Township Pantry and adopted
families Christmas program, the Evanston
Shelter for Battered Women, LINKS,
Haven,
and the North
Shore Senior Center.
Please let us know if you have
some need the church can help with, or if you have ideas about
how we can better serve the community.
