STUDY & DISCUSSION

Study and discussion groups are diverse and eclectic. There are always several offerings going, and we retool them regularly to meet current needs. Among recent discussion groups:

  • a women’s study of the book Amazing Grace, by Kathleen Norris;
  • a class on theology perspectives (including those of St Augustine, Whitehead, and other process theologians and philosophers),
  • a study of the book of Psalms,
  • Bible study for adult beginners, and
  • a series on journey sharing by members of the congregation.

This year we will focus on the theme "God Sustains". From theological understandings of the environment, economics, and our own family lives are we aware of how God sustains us? Is it something we can share with one another and our neighbors? Come and find out. The Wednesday evening book group begins on September 30. Sunday Adult Bible study begins October 4.

Finding Our Way Again: The Return of the Ancient Practices by Brian McLaren will be the focus of our Sunday morning attention during Lent. "There are ancient ways that can teach us to practice peace, joy, self-mastery, and justice. The old disciplines - fasting, contemplative prayer, simplicity, spiritual reading, meditation, solitude, silence, observing the holy days - do for our souls what exorcise does for our bodies or study does for our minds."

All are welcome.
